Strictly Sail Miami 2013

This is one of the old posts that I want to put up because it was such an awesome trip.  We buzzed down, with our friends Rick and Tracy to Miami in Feb 2013 for the Strictly Sail Miami show.  '

We flew into Fort Lauderdale and took a rental car down to bayside in Miami.  We hopped from boat to boat trying to soak in every aspect of this beautiful and impressive "car lot."  All big players in the sailing world were represented including what turned out to be some of our favorites the Jeanneau Sun Odysseys and the Beneteau Oceanis.  We spent quite a bit of time dreaming and exploring on the 35 and 38 foot versions.  Both companies offer what would be considered entry level yachts.  Now entry level for these size boats are 200k+ dollars sail-away price.  Definitely a little out of our price range but fun to look at and dream none the less.

We went on boats of all sizes and even jumped over to the power boat show by ferry.  All being more sailing enthusiasts we didn't spend much time at the powerboat side and ended up cruising over to the famous south beach for a stroll and some drinks.  The beach was teeming with young'ns on spring break.  Loud music, yelling, muscles, bikinis, and flirting abounded in this hive of juvenile activity.

We didn't stick around long here either before stumbling back to the rental car and heading back to Fort Lauderdale to eat at Big City Tavern.  I don't remember what we had but I remember liking it a lot.  Afterwards, stuffed like a pig for slaughter and simmering in booze, I waddled across the street and grabbed a cigar from a local shop.  I love cigars, in case you haven't seen any of my other posts, and it was the perfect topper to the night.

We drove back to the waiting jet and flew home with our heads spinning from the pace.  It was a whirlwind of a trip for one day and very memorable.
