Getting back into the swing

It has been a while since i have been able to write. I have been working on my novel but I enjoy writing in this blog also so it feels good to be starting again. Now that we are settled into a new place hopefully it will be easier to get on here and jot down my ideas.
One of the great things about being at this new place is we have 4 computers networked where the dining room should be. Awesome. Plus our 3 family members have wow accounts, plus the guys that we are living with. Great fun. till next time- KC

Foreclosure

I must say that having a house foreclosed on is a surreal experience. You have perfect credit and then a few wrong decisions later you are staring at a bunch of angry forms from attorneys. Granted the process does take about 7-10 months where during that time you are living mortgage and rent free. But, those are some of the worst months because you have to live in your mistake for that long. It is a horrible yo-yo of emotions where it feels like its the end of the world and then you get in moods where you do not care and you realize there is more to life than money and credit numbers. Hopefully this will allow me to take a step back and reanalyze my situation. Maybe I'll make smarter decisions this time...

Book update

The book is coming along fantastically. I'm really pleased so far with the concepts and ideas that i have wrote down and in my head. Now i just need to get it all on paper and then get it typed. Pretty much the only place that i have to work on the book is, well, at work so that limits progress greatly. The restaurant i'm working at is closing for remodeling soon so i may have some time after we get moved out of the house we are in. (that is another story though) I'm currently, at home, working on a website. It is a twist on video hosting that I think will go over really well. I, of course, wont be devulging any ideas i have on that but once everything is cemented i will be posting it here. (and probably every blog i can click on.) To finish up, go right now and download any 'Above and Beyond' podcast because they are simply the greatest EDM group out right now in my opinion. I wanted to put something witting or engaging but...bah... peace- KC

Walkouts

So about 2 weeks ago a gentleman ( i use that loosely) comes into the bar that i work at. He orders a double jack neat (since he couldn't get wild turkey 101) and a miller lt. then over the course of 30-45 minutes he orders fried mushrooms and talks up all the other bar guests. Really honest, really sincere in his conversations and stories. Well he ends up telling everyone at the bar that he has to go meet his wife, who works at the hospital, right around the corner because she is not sure how to get here. He never comes back. Interestingly enough on another night 2 weeks later he walks in. I recognized him immediately but i left early the last time he came in and was not sure if he ever came in and paid later. I slip away after he orders a double beam neat and a miller lt and confer with the manager on duty. After pulling up computer records for the last night it was confirmed that he never paid. I went back out to the bar and confronted him. At first he was incredibly indignant. "I have never walked out of a restaurant," and "this is insulting" he kept saying. Then he said he would call his wife to verify. Not only was his greeting on the phone to a male person (something to the effect of "hey man") but his wife was not even in the last time he was here. He goes back and forth saying that his wife works right at one of the restaurants across the street and we could go over and verify with her, which once again held no relevance to the topic at hand. Then upon trying to leave to meet his wife one of my friends that happened to be sitting at the bar interjects with, "well why don't you leave your drivers license or credit card while you go to meet your wife?" To this he replies that his wife had his wallet.... Awesome. So ultimately i tell him that we close at nine, if he comes back and pays his tab before then we would start over fresh. He shakes my hand graciously and thank me and heads for the door. I see him wandering lackadaisically down the street staring around. And not that you had to guess but he did not come back. At least it was fun to see him squirm, even if it really didn't bother him after he hit the street.

My Book Update

My book is coming along fantastically as far as I am concerned. The down side to this is far as you the readers (which i believe the number of readers right now is zero) are concerned i have decided not to post anymore of my book up. This is for several reasons. A. I don't want the work stolen. I do plan on having it published one day. B. Why would i offer this work for free when ultimately I want people to buy it. A selfish but legitimate point. And C. Generally the feedback that people leave as comments on websites come in two flavors: Total bashing, or Uber leg humping. The negative bashers also tend to be the quickest to trash something instead of giving actual constructive criticism. So i will stick to presenting the work to people that are more knowledgeable than I and that I trust. So sorry to the one person who might have seen the site so far but i will give updates on the progress.

Best Buy Vs. Circuit City

I came to a realization today. Recently the company "circuit city" closed down. There is a circuit city (CC) about 4 minutes from my current house. Now right across the street is a best buy(BB). Now why did the CC company close down and BB stay open. Why did i decide many years ago that i liked BB better than CC and would only go to CC if i couldn't find what i was searching for at BB. They both sell basically the same products and have extremely similar layouts. So what is it. Color. Simple as that. When i think about the stores in my mind, CC is predominantly red in their logo and therefore in their store decor. I get rushed, angry, and harsh thoughts when i think of the CC store. When i think of BB the image of the floor is the same yet it is bathed in a calm soothing blue. I don't think i am alone in feeling this way and it translated, even subconsciously, to more people choosing to go to best buy. Then when the economy turned down and more and more people had to cut back on extraneous spending, CC lost to much business to pull through the slump. "Sometimes feeling blue ain't such a bad thing." - Kc

Chapter 1: rough and unedited

The Chronicles of Akasha:
Zigen’s???

A fantasy novel by Kasey Nesselrotte

Chapter 1

A droplet fell from a slender dark-haired man's nose and landed in the snow. The experience-worn, angular features of the man where accentuated in the sun by his glistening face. He panted heavily as he focused on the spot the droplet had made in the snow. The spot was rotating ever so slightly and then there were 2 dots rotating around each other. The dots where appearing in random eccentric patterns and spinning around each other in mesmerizing ways. Right as the man started to grasp that the dots where blood streaming from his face his consciousness faded. A short muscular man with an extremely long graying beard had just landed another rib crunching kick to the chest.

"Get up Zigen," the dwarf said staring down as the dark haired man flopped over in the snow,
"Your time has come!"

1 year earlier

Oil lanterns placed sparingly throughout the dripping rock tunnel gave just enough light for a small pointed tooth goblin to navigate through the mountain. He heaved softly as he dragged two limp lifeless bodies across the ground. The work was endless and tiring, especially now that the ending was relatively near, but the alternative was unacceptable. If he made a mistake again the wizard would do more than blast off an ear. The wizard would have gotten more the first time but the small goblin was pretty quick and barely dodged the blast. In the wizards afterthought he had considered giving the swine a second chance. Then the green goblin smiled hopefully to himself. He would be rewarded greatly for his years of service after the great task was finally complete. Maybe he would be made a lieutenant or perhaps even a general. He pondered this dazedly as he continued his task. The wizard had better do something, meager meals and constant down talk where wearing his loyalty thin. The goblin continued grumbling and muttering to himself as he reached the inner chamber of the cave system. The stench in the cave was horrendous but the wall of smell didn't even faze him anymore. The goblin shuffled closer to the source of the smell. It had been several days since the wizard had been by to dispose of the heaping pile of corpses that were stacked in the center of the cavern. The goblin then tossed, with surprising ease for his small size, the two corpses up onto the mound before turning to head back outside and collect more.

Deep in the heart of Intrana a single ray of sunlight ripped through the leaves of a tall willow tree and into the window of a small tree house. The light's couple minute journey from a tiny sun in a distant galaxy came to an abrupt end on the eyes of a young, naive Zigen. He awoke slowly but kept his eyes closed. This was a feat not performed without practice. As his mind booted up he mentally pushed the fog from his thoughts in an attempt to remember the important thing he was suppose to do this morning. A soft rumble emanated from the floor beside him. Zigen smiled and sat up slowly, eyes still loosely closed. As the world came into focus he was greeted by a giant snow white mountain cat staring calmly into his eyes. The cat seemed large and powerful by its stance alone, but the two large fangs slipping from underneath furry white lips, and gigantic paws adorned with razor sharp claws further perpetuated its intimidation factor.

"Good morning Katara," Zigen said half yawning,
"How did you sleep?"

The cat continued to purr and rubbed her head affectionately against Zigen's leg draped over the side of the bed. The cat was all white save for her blazing blue eyes, some light grey parts on her paws and a matching color stripe, like a scar, over her left eye. Zigen looked around his home builttree house as he scratched Katara softly behind the ears. Most of the house was built with rough-cut lumber and logs Zigen had gathered over a period of time. The house creaked softly as a soft wind blew against it, rocking the tree back and forth ever so slightly. Parts of the walls where adorned with leathers and furs of every size and shape in various stages of drying and finishing. The smell of the leather and wood was rich and filled his lungs as he took in his first deep breath of the morning. There were few items in the house, mainly the essentials consisting of a bed with a mattress made of a leather liner with wool stuffing, some handmade stools, and a small table used mainly for preparing food and doubling as a bench to craft leather items. The only objects in the house where an old oil lamp, a handcrafted bow with straight precision fletched arrows, a slew of skinning knives, and various cooking equipment. Most of the cooking supplies were simple bowls and cups because he almost exclusively cooked on the ground over an open fire or ate the local inn in Crestfall. There were almost no luxury items in the house. Zigen greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He had always been magnetically drawn to it.

As Zigen glanced over his collection of knives his memory was jarred. He thought he had seen a knife at the bottom of the lake he was swimming at yesterday. It had gotten too dark too quickly and then he couldn't find it after his brief glimpse. He had promised himself that he would come back and look for it the next day.

"You up for a morning swim," he announced to Katara, rising from his bed.

The cat replied with a sullen purr as she was not fond of the water and avoided it at all cost. Zigen pulled on his shirt and with a small grin said,

"One of these days I’m going to drag you in and we'll find out for sure if you like it or not.

Katara just stared.

"Just kidding," said Zigen with a small laugh as he made his way to the door and slipped on his otter skinned shoes.

The cat plodded along lazily behind as Zigen sprinted a step and a half across his front landing and leapt out into the dewy morning air. There was a quick rush of noise and wind that lightened only slightly as Zigen tiptoed on a branch just enough to alter his fall direction but hardly enough to slow him down. Zigen's landing 20 feet below his house was soft and quick as he was off in a sprint before his legs had fully absorbed the impact of the fall. He dashed off through the woods dodging trees and bounding off of rocks, using each obstacle in his path to his advantage. He effortlessly darted through the maze of a forest until he finally burst into a clearing, only to find... Katara sitting on the ground looking very bored and indignant.

"There is no way you could have beat me here this time,” Zigen spat dumbfounded trying to catch his breath.

Katara swished her tail and purred loudly. Zigen shook his head as he kicked off his shoes and proceeded to remove his shirt. Looking up Zigen was met with a view he had seen many times before but was still no less breathtaking. A silhouette of trees was mirrored perfectly by the glassy smooth water of a still, inky-black lake. The Kersh mountains loomed percariacly in the distance reaching up endlessly until they disappeared in the clouds. An eerie calm hung over the lake like a thick fog. A chill went down Zigen's spine and he quickly forced himself to brush off the feeling. Zigen looked back at Katara and saw that she was staring intently around the lake from her perch on a large fallen tree. She seemed to be getting the same feeling he was. He sighed while blowing a big breath and turned to step into the water. He slipped silently into the water without any sound or evidence of his presence save for a few tiny ripples that expanded off towards the opposite shore. Swimming quietly he took several deep breaths and tried shaking off the chill of the cold water before reaching the spot where he thought he had seen the knife. He then drew a final big deep breath and slid into the darkness.

The inky water seeped into every pore of his being as it pulled him down further into its depths. For what seemed like an eternity he fingered around in the mud and darkness. Great clouds of silt from the lake bottom clouded what little vision he had. Then with his supply of oxygen running dangerously low his left hand found its prize. A cold stinging burn came over his body as the sharp edge of an ancient blade bore deep into his index finger. Slowly as Zigen recovered from the shock of the cut a powerful flow of warmth and energy flooded through his body. What seemed like faint memories flashed across his mind but they were gone as quickly as they appeared. Zigen forced himself to break free from the trancelike hold that had taken control of him. With the sudden realization of how much his lungs were burning from their lack of sweet oxygen, he rummaged in the mud for the opposite end of the blade, grabbed it, and pushed off hard for the surface.
Slowly the darkness receded. The inky black fingers of the lake loosened their hold as Zigen kicked his way towards fresh oxygen, prize in tow. He started squinting as the light cut through the water, brightening his arrival to the surface. Then, lungs straining, he broke through the threshold of water and air taking a giant gulp or fresh oxygen… Only to be cut off halfway as something strong, sharp, and powerful grabbed Zigen’s left ankle and yanked hard back into the inky depths.
Flailing wildly, Zigen looked down to catch a glimpse of what appeared to be a giant eel, making a fine lunch of his ankle. The eel, with eerie green eyes glittering in the faint sunlight, and sharp protruding teeth sinking deep into zigens ankle, was squirming vigorously trying to get its meal to accompany it at the bottom of the lake. A rush of thoughts crossed his mind as he analyzed the threat down below. Then before he could settle on an idea on how to save himself the sword in his right hand let off a faint blue glow. In the confusion Zigen almost didn’t recognize it but what happened next he could clearly recall. A soft calm came over him. His hand instinctively spun the sword around pointing blade side down. Then in an instant, he had thrust the sword right behind the eyes and down the eel fitting its body like a sheath. Stunned, Zigen starred. It wasn’t until a few seconds later that his lungs started burning and brought him out of his daze. He wriggled the eel off the sword and kicked for the surface once again.
Zigen stumbled onto shore greeted quickly by Katara who had been pacing the water’s edge. She licked him cautiously, as he collapsed on his back, taking care not to get her fur wet. It took nearly a minute for him to catch his breath. Turning his head he looked over at the sword still clutched in his hand. It looked very old. He pulled himself up into a sitting position to examine it better. Zigen knew little about sword but a lot about knives. As far as he could tell it looked like a standard katana yet the blade of the sword was forged out of a black metal. The sword had many gouges and chips but it still retained its razor sharp edge. It was also completely devoid of any rust. Very strange Zigen thought, for a blade that had been sitting at the bottom of a lake for who knows how long. The handle of the blade was wrapped in durable black leather, which oddly enough Zigen didn’t recognize despite his extensive knowledge of animal leather. As far as decorations go the sword was very plain except for three small symbols that where etched into the blade of the sword right above the Tsuba (guard) and Habaki. (blade collar) Zigen did not recognize the symbols but assumed that they where from the same people that had constructed the ruins in the area long ago. Whipping the sword back and forth a few times, Zigen nodded in satisfaction. It was a well built well balanced blade but came equipped with a very strange aura.
Zigen had become mesmerized by they sword when he finally realized that his finger and ankle where contributing their fair share of blood to the environment. Zigen pulled himself up and grabbed his shirt, a dull throbbing pain building in his head. He then used the sword to cut a strip of the shirt and wrap it around his ankle, tying it off firmly but carefully. He clutched the rest of his shirt tight in the hand with the cut to stop the flow of blood. Straightening up he looked down at his companion who was waiting patiently.

“Come on Katara,” he said unnecessarily.

He turned and limped off into the woods towards his house completely unaware of the path that had opened up before him.

First post

More and more writing has become a passion and a release for me. Interestingly enough my least favorite subject in high school was english. Go figure... I am working on a fantasy based novel and may post my progress on it once i figure out some copyright issues. Welcome to The Zigen Post and thank you for viewing. -KC
